Understanding VASA Replication Groups

VMware vVols enables data replication, snapshots, and encryption to be controlled at the VMDK level instead of the LUN level, where these data services are performed on a per VM (application level) basis from the storage system.

Prerequisites

  • The storage system must be running PowerMaxOS 5978 Q3 2020 or higher.

To view VASA replication groups:

Steps

  1. Select the storage system.
  2. Select Storage > vVol Dashboard.
  3. Click Replication Groups to display the Replication Groups list view and click a replication group to view its details.
    The following properties display in the list view:
    • Replication Group—The identity of the replication group
    • Local Storage Container—The local storage container
    • Replication Group Label—The replication group label
    • Remote Replication Group —The identity of the remote replication group
    • Remote Storage Container—The remote storage container
    • State—Replication group state
    • In Use—Indication if there are volumes in the replication group.
    • Online—Indication if online
    • Transmit Idle—Indication if in a Transmit Idle state
